Fragile

It sounds obvious writing it, but how many things can happen in a short time in one’s life!

You also start to wonder how the things that happen shape your life. In my case, COVID had an extremely big impact on my life, so much that I sometimes wonder what beautiful things could have happened if not for it. You probably have your own things that make you wonder!

Yesterday I was laying in bed thinking about this, and an adjective came into my mind: Fragile. I said, life is fragile! But I did not mean it in the physical sense.

I meant it in the “just an inch and it falls off the table”, “just another drop and it spills everywhere” sense. But also the “just pull it some more and it starts”, “just one more step and you’re there”.

My highschool’s italian professor, which also taugh us latin (I did not like it), often reminded us of her favourite saying: Homo Faber Fortunae Suae. A Human is maker of their own luck.

Fortuna (luck) in this case is what’s called a vox media, a word (vox, voice) that is neutral (in the middle, medium) and carries both the positive and negative meaning together.

I think Fragile can be a word in the middle too. The good things always seem fragile. But the bad things are fragile too, aren’t they?
